In Altadena, Zaire Calvin shared the heartbreaking story of losing his sister in the Eaton Fire, describing the chaotic escape as like a "volcano movie." Robert Lara, another resident, expressed the overwhelming emotional toll, stating that his family’s homes were destroyed and they are struggling to process the loss.
In Malibu, Tatum O'Neal revealed that the home her father, actor Ryan O'Neal, shared with Farrah Fawcett was destroyed in the fire. Meanwhile, some residents in the Pacific Palisades used creative methods like pump systems with pool water to protect their homes.
The fires, now among the most destructive in California history, have burned nearly 40,000 acres. As of Monday, the Palisades Fire was 13% contained and the Eaton Fire 27% contained, with ongoing efforts to assess the damage. The wildfires have claimed at least 24 lives, and the total number of affected structures is still rising, with over 7,000 structures damaged or destroyed by the Eaton Fire alone.
Governor Gavin Newsom is preparing fire crews for further flare-ups, as Santa Ana winds are expected to worsen the conditions.
